Still trying to decide if hormonal birth control is right for you?

A woman’s choice regarding her body is sacred. With anything concerning our bodies we should be given all information needed to make the right choice for ourselves. It is a very personal choice when choosing a Birth Control with so many factors to consider, trust me I’ve been there.

I’m here to make this valuable information easy to understand and accessible to anyone trying to naturally and effectively prevent pregnancy or even become pregnant. Learning about the woman’s cyclic nature has been one of the most rewarding processes for me and my health.

I am here to share what I’ve learned and what has worked for me along my fertility awareness journey.

In this blog you will learn…

Why I Stopped Taking Hormonal Birth Control

On my Holistic journey, I started by changing my diet. Along the way, I also became aware of every ingredient that I was putting in my body, even the products I was using that could possibly disrupt my hormones. After making these adjustments to my lifestyle I still felt “off”. The only thing left for me to cut out, that wasn’t natural, was my birth control that I take every day.

I began research on what was actually in my birth control pill and found that the pill was a synthetic version of what my body is supposed to do naturally. When taking hormonal Birth Control, your body also becomes susceptible to depleted nutrients. Nutrients such as: Vitamin C, B Vitamins, Vitamin E, Vitamin A, Magnesium, Zinc, Selenium, and Copper- all essential for a healthy body.

I started to wonder if “natural” (non-invasive and non-hormonal) forms of birth control exist, that are just as effective? That is when I discovered Fertility Awareness and I started to see a solution for all my “unknown” problems.

I dove right into research and I learned several methods to track my cycle. This new knowledge empowered me to safely get off hormonal Birth Control. I am one of those girls that has tried almost every birth control that there is (IUD, multiple forms of the “pill”, and nexplanon), all resulting in almost every side effect (weight-gain, bigger boobs, acne, extreme mood-swings, fatigue, etc.). After a while, all my previous symptoms started to subside and that mental brain fog I once knew, was finally gone.

What is Fertility Awareness?

What does Fertility awareness even mean? Fertility Awareness is the use of tracking factors such as your menstrual phases on a calendar, basal body temperature, and/or cervical mucus to predict ovulation. It is a form of “Natural Birth Control”, which means it does not include manipulation of hormones but instead uses fertility awareness and/or barrier methods.

The importance of Fertility Awareness means you can learn about how/when your body fluctuates during its different phases and begin to expect the changes before they come on. You will be prepared and learn how to independently take care of your body. By becoming aware of our cyclic nature you will naturally be more in-sync with your body, mind, and soul; allowing you to live a healthier life, without side-effects!

How To: Stop Taking Hormonal Birth Control

  1. Like I mentioned above, the first step in starting “Fertility Awareness” is to stop taking any/all medication and hormone types of birth control. This will begin your detoxing process and your body will begin to start to regulate naturally within 3-6 months.

  2. You can start by tracking your cycle during your 1st month off, to gain experience in the process and routine of tracking your cycle. For best results, wait until you start to regulate at a normal rate (period lasting average length 27-28 days, bleeding for 3-7 days), this usually occurs after 3-6 months.

  3. Understand there are multiple different methods of natural birth control and how you can track your cycle. The next step would be to choose which method you think will work best for you. You can read more about which method is right for you on my blog, “The Natural & Effective Methods of Birth Control”, click here to learn more!

If you are ready to stop taking hormonal birth control today, you can also use these new technologies that track your fertility signs while you sleep.

It is an investment but makes the process of tracking your cycle easy to have consistent results and therefore keeps your recordings accurate.
